Provided Maritzburg United give their all against Chippa United on Tuesday night, head coach Eric Tinkler is optimistic about achieving a positive result.
The DStv Premiership match against Chippa is scheduled for a 7.30pm kick off at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium just outside of East London.
This will be the Team of Choice’s third league fixture and we’re yet to win after setbacks against Baroka FC and Cape Town City.
In the home match against City, Maritzburg had a man sent off just before half time, yet fought back strongly and were arguably unlucky to lose 1-0.
There were however some signs in that performance which has led coach Eric to believe that better results could be just around the corner, provided the intensity from his men remains where it should be.
“We travel now to Chippa United to try to turn our fate around. The game against Cape Town City I thought we did exceptionally well,” he said.
“We were in my opinion very unfortunate not to come away with at least a point from that game, considering the fact that we created the most chances, we spent the large majority of the game playing with 10 men, yet we dominated.
“So I was happy with the performance of the squad, which obviously bodes well for us going forward,” the Maritzburg mentor continued.
“What becomes important now is turning around our fate, letting the confidence grow. And the way that grows, is with a positive result against Chippa United.
“It’s going to be tough though, we need to put in the same work as against Cape Town City if we want to stand a chance of collecting the three points,” coach Eric cautioned.
Maritzburg have a good record against the Eastern Cape team with five wins, two defeats, and seven draws in 14 clashes. Last season we drew 0-0 with Chippa in the corresponding away game and won 1-0 in Pietermaritzburg. Chippa have one point from their two DStv Premiership matches this term.
