Zamalek sack head coach Jaime Pacheco

Zamalek have announced the sacking of Portuguese head coach Jaime Pacheco following their 2-0 victory over Ceramica Cleopatra.

The Portuguese man has been in charge of the Cairo giants in 26 games, winning 16 while losing four, most notably against arch-rivals Al Ahly in the Champions League final.

Despite his respectable record, the club board reached the decision to part ways with him, with former coach Patrice Carteron arriving in Egypt to coach the Whites for a second stint.

This is mainly due to their poor form in the CAF Champions League, where, even though they played well, Zamalek collected just two points from three games.

The decision has angered the majority of the Zamalek fanbase, with even club legend Hazem Emam expressing his disappointment with the board’s decision, especially with the club performing well and even sitting top of the league table.

And just minutes following a 2-0 victory over Ceramica Cleopatra, Zamalek have announced the departure of the former Boavista and Vitória Guimarães manager, despite him claiming he is going nowhere.

Patrice Carteron will now be the one to replace Pacheco as the Frenchman is resigned as Al-Taawoun head coach just on Thursday, hours before the Ceramica encounter.

During his first stint, Carteron led the club to the Egyptian Super Cup title as well as the CAF Super Cup, before guiding the Whites to the CAF Champions League semi-finals.

And now his second stint will see him face the difficult task of reaching the Champions League quarter-finals and winning the Premier League for the first time since 2015
