Cairo giants Al Ahly and Zamalek have settled for a 1-1 stalemate in their clash from the 21st round of the Egyptian Premier League as their title rivalry continues.
Al Ahly had the upper hand in the first round encounter as they defeated Zamalek 2-1 in the postponed game that was held on April 18, and 21 days later the second round’s match.
The game started in a balanced way between both sides as each team tried to impose their playing style. Zamalek started to grow into the encounter first and got their chances first.
In the 20th minute Shikabala almost replicated what he did in the previous two derby games after he cut inside from the right side and fired a low shot that was saved by El-Shennawy who saved the follow up on Bencharki as well.
In the 35th minute huge chance was up for the grabbing for Al Ahly after Mohamed Sherif stole the ball and squared it to Hussein El-Shahat in front of goal but his effort was off target from close range.
In the second half, the both team’s big players wasted a lot of chances through Bencharki, Benoun and Sherif.
Finally the Red Devils managed to break the deadlock in the 73rd minute after Amr El-Sulaya broke Zamalek’s defense with a long pass to Salah Mohsen, who was brought on in second half, who went h2h with Awad as he dribbled past him and scored in the open net.
Seven minutes later, Zamalek managed to equalise after Ferjani Sassi was found clear on the edge of the box and he sent a curler into the far corner that left El-Shennawy watching in stand-still position.
Zamalek have increased their point tally to 45 in the league leadership while Al Ahly now have 41 points occupying the second place having played two games less than Zamalek. Kingfut.com
