Kaizer Chiefs players and staff are finally expected back in South Africa on Wednesday, some four days after they lost the final of the CAF Champions League to Al Ahly.
Following the disappointment of that loss in the decider, Chiefs have faced a nightmare trying to get home after mechanical problems with their chartered flight.
They initially tried to wait it out, but in the end made the decision that they would catch commercial flights back to South Africa.
“Due to technical issues with the chartered plane that flew the team to Morocco, our return to South Africa was delayed. The team will fly back commercially today and will land in Johannesburg on Wednesday morning,” the team said in a statement.
It has been a frustrating few days for the group, but there will be little time to rest on their return to Naturena, as they must now prepare for the new season that starts next month.
Their new signings, including defender Thabani Dube from Richards Bay, who was confirmed on Tuesday, are waiting for them having been training on their own while the team has been in Morocco for the past week.
