Pirates humiliate Chiefs to book their spot on the MTN8 Finals
Orlando Pirates advanced to the MTN8 finals after beating Kaizer Chiefs 2-0 this afternoon at FNB stadium, 5-0 on aggregate.
After a slow start by both sides, the match began to come alive with a glancing header in the area from Leonardo Castro forcing Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori
Kaizer Chiefs suffered a blow in the first half when Reeve Frosler immediately had his ankle twisted, Ntshangase was brought in to replace the right-back.
Chiefs should’ve taken the lead from a loose ball in the area by Ntshangase 12 minutes after the break, but the goal-post came to Orlando Pirates rescue.
Pirates went ahead a minute later when a surging run from Deon Hotto culminated with a shot which Daniel Akpeyi steered into the path of Fortune Makaringe, who tapped into an empty net.
Chiefs’ miserable afternoon was compounded 12 minutes from time when Linda Mntambo beat the offside trap to collect Hotto’s through ball for a composed finish
Chiefs were then reduced to 10 players in stoppage time when Erick Mathoho received his second yellow card and ultimately, Pirates emerged 2-0 winners on the day.
The Sea Robbers will now face Bloemfontein Celtic on the finals of MTN8.
