Kekana nominated for Fifa Puskas award

Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana will fly the South African flag at the 2020 Fifa TheBest awards after being nominated for the prestigious Puskas award.

FIFA has revealed the candidates shortlisted for seven of the individual trophies that will be presented at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony on 17 December and Kekana is up for top honours alongside the world’s best footballers. This is the second time Kekana has been nominated for the coveted award after being nominated for the 2016 edition alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar, although he ultimately lost out to Malaysian striker Mohd Faiz Subri on that occasion.

FIFA have announced the nominees for the 2020 edition of The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony, with Kekana featuring among the candidates for the Puskas Award following his strike against Cape Town City on 20 August 2019.

The 35-year-old Masandawana star has been nominated alongside 10 other players for this year’s prize, including former FC Barcelona striker Luis Suarez, ex-France international Andre-Pierre Gignac and Tottenham Hotspur forward Heung-min Son. The finalists for this year’s prize will be announced on 11 December 2020, with the winners to be crowned six days later at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony. Voting has been made open to the public on until 9 December 2020.
