The Premier Soccer League and tournament sponsors, Nedbank, officially kicked-off the 2021 Nedbank Cup campaign after hosting the round of 32 draw on Thursday evening in Johannesburg.

While the season is set to kick-off with no stadium attendance due to Covid-19 lockdown regulations, fans are urged to stay safe by watching and supporting their favourite teams from home.

“When football made its return last year, we launched the #PlayYourPart movement which was aimed at unifying the country in the continued fight against Covid-19. It is now 2021 and the second wave is upon us. We urge all football fans to once again unite and continue playing their part for their families, friends and all of South Africa, says Khensani Nobanda, Group Executive, Marketing and Communications at Nedbank.

The 2020 season saw a dramatic final clash between Mamelodi Sundowns and Bloemfontein Celtic where Masandawana were crowned champions, walking away with the Nedbank Cup trophy and R7 million prize money.

“As part of the 2020 Nedbank Cup and overall purpose to do good for communities, Nedbank afforded Mamelodi Sundowns with an opportunity to select a school in Mamelodi which would receive a multipurpose sports court. Through our partnership with The Sports Trust, we are pleased to announce that the multipurpose sports court has been built and will be handed over to the Stanza Bopape Secondary School in Mamelodi East. We are excited to see this project come to life and thankful to Mamelodi Sundowns for joining us in our quest to make a difference in South African communities,” adds Nobanda.

Nedbank will also be launching exciting initiatives and activities as part of their Nedbank Cup 2021 season campaign.
