Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba took a lot of the spotlight in one of the craziest nights of tournament football in recent memory.
France went into their game in the last 16 against Switzerland as the heavy favorites but fell behind thanks to a first-half header from Benfica striker Haris Seferovic. Les Bleus were completely out of rhythm in a 3-4-3 formation and Pogba along with the rest of the team struggled.
In the second half they switched to their more favoured 4-2-3-1 system and Pogba came alive, although Switzerland were awarded a penalty. However, Hugo Lloris saved it and then Karim Benzema scored twice in the preceding four minutes to turn the tie on it’s head.
Then came Pogba’s moment of brilliance as he picked up a loose ball from 30 yards out, put it out of his feet, and curled an absolute stunner into the top corner to give France a 3-1 lead.
